KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Drachm (Silver, 17 mm, 4.00 g, 12 h), uncertain mint. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress; two countermarks: head of Apollo to right and monogram of KA within circular incuse and KAΛ above grain ear within rectangular incuse. Rev. AΛEΞANΔ[POY] Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right. Naumann E-Auction 148 (2025), 104. Cf. Price 1406g. For countermarks, Price p. 69. Very rare with these interesting countermarks. Slightly rough and with some weakness from countermarking, otherwise, fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.
The countermarks were applied by the cities of Kallatis (with the grain ear), and Kalchedon (wit the head of Apollo)
